3rd Annual Tree Giveaway Planned
In honor of Arbor Day in Hawai‘i, the Hoakalei Cultural Foundation will be giving away free Koki‘o ke‘oke‘o (white hibiscus) trees on Saturday November 7 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Keone‘ula Elementary School's cafeteria.
Volunteers from Native Pathfinders will be on hand to answer questions about the slightly fragrant endemic plant, general landscape and tree planting questions.
This is the third year the Foundation is giving out Native Hawaiian trees for Arbor Day. The Foundation hopes doing so will encourage residents to use natives in their gardens and help bring back these beautiful plants and ensure they survive for future generations to enjoy.
The tree giveaway is funded in part by Kaulunani, an Urban Forestry Program of the DLNR Fivision of Forestry and Wildlife and the USDA Forest Service. For more information about Arbor Day in Hawai‘i, please visit www.arbordayhawaii.org
